What happens when the door opens and the prayer is answered, what's next?
You take a step of faith. There have been times in my life where I have missed or ignored the doors opening for me. There have also been times where I was too afraid to walk through them.
As I've gotten older, I started to wonder about the “what if's” and realized that in order for me to grow I need to take a step of faith. I remember hearing in a song, “success is not defined by results, but success is defined by obedience.” Taking a step of faith is never easy because it relies on us to move forward without seeing what is ahead and what we will be walking into. Faith requires us to be obedient when a decision needs to be made, even when we may not understand or know what the outcome will be. We must be able to trust that God will take care of everything. I hope that when I look back in my life that I can say that I stepped out in faith when God opened doors for me. Most importantly I hope that I can show my family that they too can also take steps of faith in their lives especially when it doesn't make sense. Their success doesn't need to be defined by the results but by their obedience.
The world defines success by our wealth and popularity but that sort of success is temporary. Our obedience to God will give us everlasting joy and happiness. Even with failure we have an opportunity to put our trust in Him.
I wrote this during a time where I made the decision to move to a new job and leave behind an incredible team. It was a great opportunity for my family and to help me grow in my career. It was a difficult decision to leave after so many years but it was a moment where I knew I had to trust in God because in my heart I knew He was opening this door and answering my prayers. These life changing moments will shape who God wants me to become and ultimately my success will be defined by obedience.
